Making aging a better experience is the mission of Dr. von Preyss. She does this through her work as the Chief Medical Officer for Avalon Health Care and Caldera Care, as well as in her role as the current Board President of the Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine (PALTmed) – formerly known as the American Medical Director’s Association (AMDA). She also serves as past-president of the Washington State Chapter of PALTmed, in addition to various state and national advisory panels. She also furthers her message through speaking engagements to groups of all sizes around the world.

Washington State had the first major outbreak of COVID-19 in the United States. As a part of the governor’s council, Dr. von Preyss tirelessly worked to educate and inform healthcare workers, especially those working in long-term care settings, on best practices. Working on the front line of the pandemic, Dr. von Preyss changed the course of how our most vulnerable populations were treated. She also worked to improve how caregivers were protected.

De-prescribing medications are of particular interest to the doctor. She is internationally recognized for her work, reducing the number and the dosage of drugs, particularly for patients in long-term care.

A self-described “activist, medical director”, Dr. von Preyss was named by AMDA, the 2011 Medical Director of the Year. Seattle Magazine called her the “Top Doctor for Women — Geriatric Medicine.” The doctor is a tenacious advocate for patients, families, caregivers, and their health and happiness.
