We’ve all grown weary of COVID, I know. Infections are still happening, and people are dying, but news coverage of the pandemic has dropped down to almost nothing. Not because it’s “over” but because we’re “over it.”
The good news is that nearly everyone’s body now has at least some immunity against COVID. We arrived at this point by encountering the virus, by getting sick, getting vaccinations, or both. It’s true; we see fewer hospitalizations and fewer deaths as a general population. That’s not true, however, for the elderly. According to the CDC, this month (October 2022), 97% of COVID deaths in the USA are people aged 50 and older.
We can do something about this.
Being a step ahead of COVID is the only way we will ever beat this virus. Not only should you get the COVID booster, but you should fearlessly engage your family, friends, and neighbors about it. Getting the booster protects you but reduces transmission, which can be deadly to our elderly. We do this as a community because that’s what communities do for each other.
